Stop, Look, and Listen

Stopping to know what you're doing and why isn't a one-time activity.  It must be a daily activity.  Spend time every morning or evening to think about the coming day.  Set aside a day twelve times a year to plan your month.  And spend one week each year reflecting and evaluating, to measure the year that's passed, to plan the year that's coming, and to stay on track with your purpose. - John C. Maxwell

The world stands aside to let anyone pass who knows where he is going. - David Starr Gordon

The reward for work well done is the opportunity to do more. - Jonas Salk

Monday Musings

There are two types of people
who never achieve much in their lifetime.
The person who won't do what he is told, and the
person who does no more than he is told.

- Andrew Carnegie

The Three "C's" of Growth
These three words will determine your growth.

Choice - it allows you to start growing.
Change - it allows you to keep growing.
Climate - allows you to enjoy growing.

- John C. Maxwell

I long to accomplish a great and noble task,
but it is my chief duty and job to accomplish humble
tasks as though they were great and noble.
The world is moved along,
not only by the mighty shoves of its heroes,
but also by the aggregate of the tiny
pushes of each honest worker.

- Helen Keller

The Race At Sunrise

Subscribe in a reader

Every morning in Africa,
a gazelle wakes up.  It knows that it must run
faster than the fastest lion,
or it will be killed.
Every morning a lion wakes up.
It knows that it must outrun the slowest gazelle,
or it will starve to death.
It doesn't matter whether you are a lion
or a gazelle; when the sun comes up,
you had better be running.

- African Parable

Welcome Summer and Kindness

Subscribe in a reader

Vivian wanted to put out our new Welcome Summer flag early, so we did.  (We had a spring flag out with a birdhouse).  I was thinking how much I like the seasons of spring and summer. (Sorry I am not a winter person. It is my least favorite time of year).

Vivian had Kindness Day at school today and they were to pick 5 kind things to do.  I think this is a good practice for kids and adults alike and probably should be done more regularly than once a year.  I subscribe to the Random Acts of Kindness, and they have good ideas and suggestions for anyone interested.

In the movie Cinderella, her mom said "Be kind and have courage."  Good advice it seems. :)

Having Potential

Having potential
works exactly opposite to the way
a savings account does.
In a savings account, as time goes by,
your money compounds interest.
The longer you leave it untouched,
the more it increases.

When it comes to potential,
the longer you leave it untouched,
the more it decreases.
Unused potential wastes away.
If you want your potential to increase,
you have to tap into it.

- John C. Maxwell
